About Bartow
Bartow serves as the county seat of Polk County and is part of the Lakeland−Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area. Originally founded in 1851 as Fort Blount, the city was renamed to honor Francis S. Bartow, who became the first Confederate brigade commander to die in combat during the American Civil War.
