About Bedford
Bedford is a former town that now serves as a district of Halifax, Nova Scotia, situated on the north west shore of the Bedford Basin. It borders Hammonds Plains, Sackville, Dartmouth, and mainland Halifax within the central area of the municipality. The community was named in honour of John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford, who served as Secretary of State for the colonies in 1749.
