About Bonne Terre
Bonne Terre is located in St. Francois County, Missouri, within the Southeast Missouri Lead District. Lead mining defined the area from the arrival of French settlers in the 1720s until the mine closed in 1962. Environmental cleanup at the Bonne Terre Mine Tailings Site, designated a Superfund site in 1992, continues to this day.
