Located in Metro East within St. Clair County, this community sits east of the Mississippi River in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Originally established as a colonial French mission in 1689, it has evolved over centuries to become part of the region's history. On May 6, 2021, the village was incorporated into the new city of Cahokia Heights.
