About Chalmette
Chalmette serves as the parish seat of St. Bernard Parish in southeastern Louisiana, situated within the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area. The community lies east of downtown New Orleans and south of Arabi, facing towards Lake Borgne. Its population has fluctuated significantly over recent decades, rebounding to 21,562 by the 2020 census after a sharp decline following Hurricane Katrina.
