Coatzacoalcos is a major port city in southern Veracruz, situated on the western side of the Coatzacoalcos River estuary along the Bay of Campeche. It serves as the municipal seat and ranks as the third-largest city in the state after Veracruz and Xalapa. The municipality covers 471.16 square kilometers with a reported population of 310,698 persons.
