About El Rio
El Rio is a small, rural unincorporated town in Ventura County, California, situated on the northeast side of the 101 Freeway and south of the Santa Clara River. Originally founded in 1875 as New Jerusalem, the community was renamed around 1900 near where the coastal railroad line crosses the river. Vineyard Avenue serves as the central business district for this largely residential area.
