About Fort Leonard Wood
Fort Leonard Wood is a U.S. Army training installation situated in the Missouri Ozarks, with its main gate on the southern boundary of St. Robert. Established in 1940 and named for General Leonard Wood, it shifted from infantry to engineer training during World War II, when Italian and German POWs were interned there. The site later consolidated most U.S. Army Engineer School operations in 1984.
