About Fresnillo
Founded in 1554 by Francisco de Ibarra, Fresnillo serves as a rail and highway junction in north central Mexico. The city anchors a rich mining area known especially for silver, including the Mina Proaño or Fresnillo Mine owned by the Peñoles mining company. Agriculture and cattle raising also support the local economy alongside a dedicated mining school.
