Gurnee is a village in Lake County, Illinois, situated within the Chicago metropolitan area and bordering Waukegan. Founded in 1928, it lies roughly 40 miles north of Chicago and 50 miles south of Milwaukee. The community takes its name from former Chicago mayor Walter S. Gurnee.
