About Hercules
Hercules is a city in western Contra Costa County, situated along the coast of San Pablo Bay about 10 miles north of Berkeley. The area was first developed in 1881 as a manufacturing facility for the California Powder Works, producing its patented dynamite formulation known as Hercules powder. This small company town later transformed into a suburban bedroom community with a very ethnically diverse population.
