About Irvine
Irvine is a planned city in central Orange County, California, within the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Named for landowner James Irvine in 1888, it was formally incorporated on December 28, 1971, after development began in the 1960s. As of June 2025, the city had a population of 318,629.
