Located at 560 Northfield Avenue in West Orange, Turtle Back Zoo sits within the South Mountain Reservation as part of the Essex County Park System. Founded in 1963, this 20-acre attraction houses approximately 1400 animals from every continent except Antarctica and is open year-round, weather permitting.
Something unique: The zoo is part of the oldest county park system in the United States and features several hundred birds in a free-flight aviary.
