Isla Mujeres sits where the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea meet, about 13 kilometres off the Yucatán Peninsula coast in Quintana Roo. The island features a rocky east coast with strong surf, while the skyline of Cancún is visible to the west. It serves as the seat of Isla Mujeres Municipality.
