About Joplin
Joplin sits on the outer edge of the Ozark Mountains in southwestern Missouri, spanning parts of Jasper and Newton counties. As the principal city of its metropolitan area, it is the twelfth most populous city in the state. The community rebuilt after a violent EF5 tornado killed more than 150 people and destroyed one-third of the city in May 2011.
