About North Vernon
North Vernon serves as the largest city in Jennings County, Indiana, with a population of 6,608 recorded in the 2020 census. The community developed during the 1850s at the intersection of two railroad lines, located roughly two miles north of the county seat. Originally platted under the name Tripton, it officially became North Vernon upon incorporation in 1867.
