About Palenque
Palenque was a Maya city-state that flourished until the 8th century before being reclaimed by jungle vegetation. The site has since been excavated and restored, revealing ruins dating from roughly 226 BC to 799 AD. It sits near the Usumacinta River in Chiapas at an elevation of 150 meters above sea level.
