About Pátzcuaro
Founded in the 1320s as the capital of the Purépecha Empire, Pátzcuaro later served under Vasco de Quiroga before the provincial capital moved to Valladolid. The city retains its colonial and indigenous character and is designated one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos. It is widely recognized for its Day of the Dead celebrations in the surrounding lake region.
