About Port Colborne
Port Colborne sits on Lake Erie at the southern end of the Welland Canal within Ontario's Niagara Region. Originally established as Gravelly Bay in 1832, the settlement was renamed to honor Sir John Colborne, a British war hero and Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. The name change coincided with the opening of the First Welland Canal's southern terminus in 1833.
