Prunedale is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Monterey County, California, situated 8 miles north of Salinas at an elevation of 92 feet. The population grew from 17,560 in 2010 to 18,885 by the 2020 census. Early attempts to cultivate plum trees failed shortly after founding due to poor irrigation and fertilizer.
