About Roscoe
Roscoe is a village in Winnebago County, Illinois, situated along the Rock River within the Rockford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community developed after settlers William Talcott and Stephen Mack established outposts on opposite sides of the river, with Macktown eventually fading as residents moved to Roscoe following the destruction of their connecting bridge in 1851. Notably, Macktown remains the only surviving community from the 1830s in northern Illinois that has not undergone subsequent development.
