About Santa María Atzompa
Santa María Atzompa is a town in Oaxaca, located about five km from the state capital. Founded between the 7th and 9th centuries as a satellite of Monte Albán, it has long been defined by pottery making. Excavations at the local archaeological site revealed a 45-meter Mesoamerican ball court that served as the principal one for Monte Alban.
