Taylorsville sits in Salt Lake County and is part of the larger Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The city was incorporated on July 1, 1996 from the Taylorsville–Bennion CDP and nearby Kearns township. It lies adjacent to Interstate 215 and Bangerter Highway, placing it right in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley.
