Ancient Aztec City
About Texcoco de Mora
Located 25 km northeast of Mexico City, Texcoco de Mora was a major Aztec city on the shores of Lake Texcoco before the lake was largely drained. The area transitioned from a colonial powerhouse to a rural setting as the water receded, leaving much of the municipality on former lakebed. Visitors can learn about its rich history through numerous archaeological finds, including the massive stone statue of Chalchiuhtlicue.
