About Thomson

Thomson serves as the county seat of McDuffie County and was originally established in 1837 as a depot on the Georgia Railroad. The city was later renamed for railroad official John Edgar Thomson before being incorporated as a town in 1854 and a city in 1870. Today, it is known as 'The Camellia City of the South' due to the thousands of camellia plants found throughout the area.
