About Clovis
Clovis is a city in Fresno County, California, established in 1890 as a freight stop for the San Joaquin Valley Railroad. It was developed by Fresno businessmen and Michigan railroad speculator Marcus Pollasky on land purchased from two farmers. The station and subsequent town were named after one of those farmers, Clovis Cole.
