Cohoes is an incorporated city located in the northeast corner of Albany County, New York. Its growth was driven by textile manufacturing that processed cotton from the Deep South and relied heavily on French-Canadian immigrants. French remained widely spoken as a native language in Cohoes until the late 20th century.
