About Joliette
Located about 50 kilometres northeast of Montreal on the L'Assomption River, Joliette serves as the seat of its Regional County Municipality in southwest Quebec. Founded in 1823 by Barthélemy Joliette and Marie-Charlotte de Lanaudière, the settlement was originally named L'Industrie to emphasize economic activity and land development. The city officially incorporated and adopted its current name in 1863.
