About Keokuk
Keokuk serves as the county seat of Lee County and holds the distinction of being Iowa's southernmost city. Located in the extreme southeast corner where the Des Moines River meets the Mississippi, it was named after Sauk chief Keokuk. The area is also home to the Keokuk National Cemetery.

George M Verity Riverboat Museum features a historic towboat built in 1927 as SS Thorpe. This museum ship is one of only three surviving steam-powered towboats in the United States and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
