About Nicolás Romero
Located in the north-central part of the State of Mexico, just northwest of the Federal District, this city serves as the municipal seat of Nicolás Romero. The area was originally settled by the Otomi and later named Azcapotzaltongo by the Aztecs before undergoing several name changes during colonial and post-independence eras. Visitors may not know that the current name honors a local hero executed by the French after fighting for Benito Juárez.
