Ciudad López Mateos serves as the municipal seat of Atizapán de Zaragoza in the State of Mexico. Originally named San Francisco Atizapán, it was renamed after President Adolfo López Mateos, though locals still commonly refer to it as Atizapán. As the seventh-largest city in the state, it is home to the upscale neighborhood Zona Esmeralda.
