Located about 35 km south of Oaxaca city center along Highway 175, Ocotlán de Morelos served as a significant population center during the Spanish Conquest. A 16th-century Dominican monastery complex remains active, with its church used for worship and the cloister operating as a museum. The town is also recognized for artist Rodolfo Morales, who painted his hometown and sponsored restoration projects for historic monuments.
