About Pontotoc
Pontotoc serves as the county seat of Pontotoc County in Mississippi, situated west of Tupelo with a population of 5,640. The city name is derived from a Chickasaw word meaning 'Land of the Hanging Grapes,' and its historic district along Main and Liberty Streets is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can also see the Treaty of Pontotoc Site, which marks where Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal policy led to the cession of millions of acres of Native American lands.
