About Villa de Etla
Villa de Etla serves as the municipal seat for six communities in the far northwestern Central Valley of Oaxaca, roughly seventeen kilometers from the capital. While much of its history is undocumented, oral tradition suggests a 15th-century founding centered around the church and former monastery of San Pedro y San Pablo. Visitors can experience local culture at the weekly Wednesday market, which features goat barbacoa prepared in an earthen oven.
