About Villa del Carbón
Villa del Carbón is a municipality in northern Mexico State, northwest of Mexico City, where Otomí and Nahua indigenous cultures remain strong in several villages. The area’s boundaries were defined in 1714 when the region of Chiapan was split, though the current municipal seat originally lacked an official name. It was first identified by its church, Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia, and later became known for supplying charcoal.
