About Asunción Nochixtlán
Asunción Nochixtlán is a municipality in the Mixteca Region of Oaxaca that was originally established as a Mixtec military zone in 909. After being abandoned due to epidemics in the early 16th century, it was refounded by Francisco Orozco in 1527. The town features the 16th-century church of Santa María de la Asunción, which houses notable colonial-era santos.
