About Joliet

Located 40 miles southwest of Chicago, Joliet serves as the county seat of Will County and the third-most populous city in Illinois. Originally settled in 1852 as a steel mill town on the Des Plaines River, it was the first major city outside Chicago on U.S. Route 66. The historic Old Joliet Prison, once the state's largest correctional facility, has appeared in films like The Blues Brothers.
