About Stillwater

Stillwater sits at the crossroads of U.S. Route 177 and State Highway 51 in north‑central Oklahoma, serving as the county seat of Payne County. With a population of 48,394 recorded in the 2020 census, it is the state's tenth‑largest city and part of the Stillwater Micropolitan Statistical Area, which had 78,399 residents in 2012. The city was founded during the first Oklahoma Land Run on April 22, 1889, when the Unassigned Lands were opened for settlement and became the core of the new Oklahoma Territory.
