About Tlacotalpan
Established in 1550 on an island in the Papaloapan River, Tlacotalpan was once a vital interior port before its importance faded with the arrival of the railroad. The city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its preserved Spanish and Caribbean architecture. Visitors often come for the annual feast in honor of Our Lady of Candlemas.
